چکیده

In this study, we apply an integrated land use and transportation model, the Sacramento MEPLAN model, to evaluate transit investment alternatives combined with supportive land use policies and pricing polices in the Sacramento region. Highway investment alternatives are simulated as well for purposes of comparison. The application of the Sacramento MEPLAN model is relatively advanced because the model represents a number of induced travel effects, including land use, destination, mode choice, and route choices. A number of conclusions are made for the case study. First, transportation investment in both highway and light rail may allow for greater decentralization of regional development. Second, new highway capacity projects, even if they include HOV lanes, may increase VMT and emissions. Third, transit investment with supportive land use policies or pricing policies may be very effective in reducing VMT and emissions. Fourth, transit investment with supportive land use or pricing policies may provide congestion reduction that is as great, if not greater, than highway investment policies. Fifth, transit investment combined with land use policies may provide greater benefits (i.e., change in travel time and cost) than highway investment. Rodier, Abraham, Johnston, and Hunt 3

A Multi-objective Analysis of Regional Transportation and Land Development Policies

To address roadway congestion problems, communities throughout the nation that are at risk for air quality problems are proposing major and costly beltway highway projects. In this study, an integrated land use and transportation model and an advanced travel demand model linked to a land allocation model are applied to evaluate different combinations of transit and highway investment alternativ...

Application of Discrete 3-level Nested Logit Model in Travel Demand Forecasting as an Alternative to Traditional 4-Step Model

This paper aims to introduce a new modelling approach that represents departure time, destination and travel mode choice under a unified framework. Through it, it is possible to overcome shortages of the traditional 4-step model associated with the lack of introducing actual travellers’ behaviours. This objective can be achieved through adopting discrete 3-level Nested Logit model that represen...

A functional integrated land use-transportation model for analyzing transportation impacts in the Maryland-Washington, DC Region

The Maryland-Washington, DC region has been experiencing significant land-use changes and changes in local and regional travel patterns due to increasing growth and sprawl. The region’s highway and transit networks regularly experience severe congestion levels. Before proceeding with plans to build new transportation infrastructure to address this expanding demand for travel, a critical questio...

Applying the Land Use-Transportation Integrated Model, Using the Most Effective Sustainable Urban Variables Case study: part of the district 22 of city of Tehran

Land use planning is the main core of urban planning and one of the main components of an urban system. This element has close relation with transportation system of the city, so if their interaction becomes insufficient, deterioration and chaos would have an adverse impact on the urban system and would cause serious environmental issues. The integrated land use-transportation models seem to b...
